The Chicago City Council voted this month to award The Germania Club historic landmark status.  Located at the corner of Clark Street and Germania Place (just south of North Avenue) in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, the building is home to the Germania Place ballrooms and Kenmare Catering. 

Designed in 1889 by W. August Fiedler and built by prominent members of Chicago’s German-American community, the Germania Club is a structure know today for its  distinctive Victorian-era architecture and abundance of ornamental detail.

From a surprise proposal using Robyn’s grandmother’s wedding ring, to a piece of her mother’s wedding veil tucked into her bouquet before Robyn walked down the aisle, Jason and Robyn’s wedding was all about family, friends and well planned surprises.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago has named Kenmare Catering and Events as exclusive caterer for all events held at its 1920s era Grand Ballroom located at 112 S. Michigan, across from the Art Institute. A special Farewell reception and dinner was held Sunday, June 6, 2010, in honor of Father Brian Paulson who served eleven years as President of Saint Ignatius College Prep. “Kenmare has catered several events for Saint Ignatius College Prep, including receptions for the school’s president. Each party has been a huge success.

An interview with Reid Tillinghast, President, Kenmare Catering and Events appeared in the Fall/Winter issue of Brides Chicago Magazine. Reid offered his thoughts on the “Next Big Thing” in wedding reception menus.

From its beginning Chicago has been a great melting pot of people and cultures from all over the world. At the turn of the 20th century the city’s largest population of immigrants hailed from Germany. By 1900, native-born Germans and their descendents made up nearly a quarter of Chicago’s entire population.

When you think of a Sunday evening wedding for 20 people — including the bride and groom — you think of a couple doing something simple, off peak, small. Last weekend, Linbin and Xueping (pronounced “Shray-ping”) executed the most elegant ceremony I have done so far this year. (And that is saying something.) They had exclusive use of the lovely Cuneo Mansion & Gardens in Vernon Hills. That’s a good start.
